At Nashulai Maasai Conservancy we have two luxury tented safari camps – Oldarpoi and Wageni. These two neighbouring camps sit right on the edge of the conservancy in a quiet, semi-wooded area where wildlife is common. Zebra and various antelope frequently pass right through the two unfenced camps, elephant often munch through the bushes surrounding the camps and at night you will likely hear the primordial roar of lions on the hill above the two camps.
Both of our tented camps offer a high class of service and great comfort. You might be sleeping in a tent but this is not camping as you may know it! Each of our very spacious tents contains proper beds with high-quality mattresses and linens, electricity throughout (including charge points), hot water, private bathrooms and comfortable chairs and other furnishings. Each tent has its own raised deck from which to enjoy the view and each is far enough apart from its neighbour to ensure privacy.
Meals can either be taken on the privacy of your own deck or, more normally, in the impressive dining room of each camp. The hilltop position of the intimate dining room of the Wageni Camp offers commanding views over a huge swathe of Nashulai Maasai Conservancy, the Great Rift Valley and the nearby Masai Mara National Reserve. The dining area at the Oldarpoi Camp is more enclosed in a densely vegetated area and guests can enjoy fabulous bird-watching whilst enjoying a meal.
Wageni Camp has a large swimming pool (in the shape of Africa!) and both camps have a bar and fire pit where pre-dinner drinks are enjoyed as the sun sets on another magical Kenyan day.
Our flagship camp has a commanding position halfway up a densely wooded hill and offers superb views across almost the entire Mara eco-system. In fact, at sunset, Wageni Camp offers probably the single best view of any camp in the whole of the Masai Mara region. And with ample space and a procession of animals regularly passing through the camp, there’s much more than just the landscape views to admire from up here! The camp itself matches the quality of the views, the huge, luxury tents use only the finest furnishings and linens and have that luxury understated safari look. Big beds, bathrooms with plentiful hot water, built in electricity and a big terrace from which to soak in those views rounds out the tent package. The heart of Wageni Camp is the dining area and large, Africa-shaped infinity pool where you can soak away the dust of another safari day. Evenings at Wageni normally focus on the panoramic fire pit where snacks and pre-dinner sundowner drinks are served.
Oldarpoi is our slightly more informal, and larger, safari camp. What this camp lacks in sweeping aerial views it gains in forested intimacy. A native tree planting programme provides plentiful shade and a home for hundreds of twittering, tweeting birds, which make breakfasts – served out on the large terrace, a birdwatchers delight. The tents at Oldarpoi are a little smaller and more basic than those of Wageni, but they still retain all the finesse of a luxury safari experience with each tent containing beds with quality mattresses and linens, a hot water bathroom, built in electricity and a terrace from where you can enjoy the sights and sounds of Africa.
