Journey to Ancestral Lands

Our Kiswahili word “safari” means “a journey”: a journey of discovery, of new experiences, of travel along new roads, encountering new friends.

The ethos of Nashulai Journeys is simple. Each and every one of us co-exist with each other and with the natural world around us. On every safari, trek or tour that Nashulai Journeys offers – whether it be in our Kenyan homeland, elsewhere in East Africa, among the soaring peaks of the Himalaya or on the hot plains of India – we never forget that we all co-exist and that all of our actions will impact another person, another animal and the environment around us. And so, our one-of-a-kind journeys are designed to offer a unique, memorable, enjoyable and educational experience for our clients, but also to bring positive benefits to our host communities as well as to the local environment and wildlife. This is real, genuine eco-tourism.

We offer both tailormade and ”off the shelf” journeys, curated for you personally and in conjunction with you, as well as set-departure group journeys. Whichever kind of Nashulai Journey you opt for, all of the tours, safaris and treks offered by Nashulai Journeys stay true to tour shared vision and the vision of Nashulai Maasai Conservancy.

We offer a carefully crafted selection of journeys throughout Kenya, East Africa, the Himalaya and South Asia. Nothing we do is run-of-the-mill and all of our journeys offer something unique Whether this be a hands-on look at conservation, exploratory treks through little known corners of East Africa, Maasai homestays, highly unusual wildlife-watching experiences (how do you fancy spending a full day with rangers and scientists in the company of chimpanzees or a 200-strong troop of baboons?), Himalayan treks to hidden Buddhist valleys led by experts in Tibetan Buddhist culture, or tracking tigers through the jungles of central India.

But importantly we do more than just provide once-in-a-lifetime travel experiences. We make sure that the wildlife, landscapes and people that you’ve come so far to see and meet genuinely benefit from your visit. Every client of Nashulai Journeys pays a set daily conservation and community development fee. This is used to help fund carefully selected community and conservation projects operating within the vicinity of our host communities. No other tour company takes its obligations to community and wildlife so seriously. Co-existence. It is after-all, the very reason Nashulai Journeys exists at all.

Is our Nashulai Journeys for you?

I think Nashulai Journeys appeals to a small but growing segment of travellers. We’re committed to working closely with local communities in the areas we visit and leave them better than we found them. We believe in mutual value. In providing you with the chance to interact with your hosts–the local people.  Our carefully crafted tours offer unique experiences and an in-depth immersion into local culture and the environment, enriched by caring hospitality and service. But if you’re mostly interested in pristine areas with luxury lodges, where the people have been removed from the land or paid small fees to leave the land to make way for scenic viewing, Nashulai Journeys is probably not for you. Big Tourism all too often brings little benefit to the local people whose land it is, who are (as in Tanzania) all too often removed from their homes, or in Kenya paid small lease fees to leave the land to make way for scenic viewing in pristine “parks and reserves.” That is not our model.

We welcome with open arms and hearts people who are interested in connecting to ancient storytelling traditions and cultures, where your experience of the land and its people will be forever deepened by seeing it close up through the eyes of those who know it best.

More journeys will be added soon.
